The un spoilt and less well known village of Vrouchas is situated on the eastern side of Crete just 10 km away from the holiday resort of Agios Nikolaos .  Vrouchas has a wonderful mountain setting surrounded by olive and citrus groves.

There are a few private and holiday company owned villas around the village of Vrouchas and all offer different levels of luxury, from self catering to full board.  You will find the village quiet and very traditional with small Taverna's popular with locals and visitors alike.  The village doesn't see many tourists so don't expect masses of gift and bric a brac shops.

The charm of Vrouchas is that its population is still very traditional and you will find the women hard at work cleaning the house and looking after the children while the men sit and play backgammon and sip ouzo, raki or coffee all day.

There is little to do in Vrouchas although a trip to the windmills around the village is well worth it, they were built many centuries ago and these ancient stone windmills were used to grind the local corn for bread and flour.

Around the village of Vrouchas you will find it perfect for walking, hiking and mountain biking and there are many trails for you to follow.  Our personal recommendation is to hire a car and get out and explore the other holiday resorts like Elounda and Agios Nikolaos.  If you're looking for nice beaches then pay a visit to Vai beach to the far east of the Lassithi prefecture.

If you're looking for a holiday off the beaten track then choose Vrouchas in Crete and you will remember it forever.
