Veni Holiday Travel Guide

Veni is a wonderful  resort close to the capital of Heraklion and near to Rethymnon, right in the middle of Crete and with a backdrop of the Idi mountain range.  Its rare in the fact its not a coastal resort, but a mountain village set within babbling brooks, streams and springs.

The surroundings of Veni are olive groves, orange and lemon groves and cypress pines.  There are no shops, restaurants or bars in this small town, just a few local houses and some magnificent villas provided by Thomson Holidays and other local companies.

If you want to visit the beaches then the seaside beach resorts of Hersonissos, Gouves and Stalis are just two hours drive away hiring a car is essential when visiting Veni as it allows you to explore your surroundings and stunning scenery.

The Surroundings of Veni

Because Veni is just a hillside village, you need to get out and explore what Crete has to offer.  From the capital city of Heraklion with its weekly markets and museums, to the home of the famous painter El Greco in Fodele.

You can drive up to Rethymnon and see the lovely beaches, municipal gardens or buy some well crafted but low price gold jewellery.  If you want to book any boat trips your best picking a local travel agent or booking with your holiday representative.

Another excellent place to visit, which is situated quite close to Veni on the south east side of Crete is Ierapetra, a coastal town with an imposing fortress and regular boast trips to Chrissi island.

If you just want to relax and chat with the locals in Veni, then you can do so without even seeing another tourist for days.  This is the ideal mountain retreat for those who want something different from your regular beach holiday to Crete or Greece.
