Stalis is well renowned in Crete for it’s Irish influence, with many Irish people coming to settle and live in Stalis you will find a wealth of friendly welcoming bars serving up ice cold pints of Guinness, with live Irish music most nights.
There are also plenty of other bars and restaurants in Stalis, some traditional English
pub style offering the likes of quizzes and bingo on a nightly basis and some bars
will have you dancing into the early hours.
Below you will find a small selection
of handpicked places to visit whilst in Stalis or Stalida on your summer holidays.
Also if you have visited a near perfect restaurant or bar when in Stalis then please
feel free to share your discovery with the community.
Look out for the new bars and
restaurants of Stalis guide, which will provide contact numbers to book a restaurant,
plus reviews of every bar and restaurant in Stalis.
Depending on what food your looking for Stalis can cater for every taste. Starting
off with real English pub grub you wont be disappointed. First try the Rose and
Crown which offers a huge menu of English and Continental dishes, and one of the
best breakfasts can be had here. The Rose and Crown is quite reasonably priced,
being just a little cheaper that back home.
Another great restaurant to try is Mambo’s
which is an authentic Scottish pub along the road towards Malia, friendly staff and
good food await you. Another great restaurant that is well worth a mention is the
Britannia Inn situated near the beach and Anthousa Beach Hotel.
For excellent Greek Taverna's you have to look away from the beach road and into the back alleys for real authentic and well priced Greek food. Not to say that the restaurants on the beach front are not worth a visit but we found the best restaurants hidden away.
For the best Greek restaurant look towards the main road of Stalis and find it on a corner perched under a huge olive tree. Very small, cosy and intimate. Amazing food and wonderful service.

Other Greek restaurants include El Greco on the beachfront along with Roma Restaurant,
both do good Greek food and a good line in pizza. (the views from these two restaurants
are what you come on holiday for, enjoying your meal by the seafront, watching the
sunset.
If you're looking for something different, or more familiar to the food back
home then try the Jasmine House, which is by far the best Chinese restaurant in Crete.
Well priced dishes, all authentic well cooked Chinese food.
There are a few Dutch
only restaurants, including pubs in Stalis, you will find these walking to the left
of Stalis beach road as you face the sea. So really in Stalis there is something
for everyone.
As mentioned earlier there are a few Irish bars in Stalis, the 2 most popular have
to be Dwyer's Irish Bar and Slainte Bar, both situated on the beach road quite close
together. They both have their fair share of live Irish music, and an excellent
Irish welcome with Guinness on draft. You will also find an excellent Scottish bar
called Mambos on the beach road near the end of Stalis.
For other great bars try Africa
bar, Bar Code and Bar Bliss, both stay open into the early hours if your looking
for a bit more excitement and nightlife from Stalis. For a more chilled out night
try the Rovers Return or Mosquito bar. Both these pubs offer good drinks and a relaxing
atmosphere.
There are also a few bars that play the latest movies, one of these is
Cheers bar, and all your required to do is buy 1 drink per movie. The movies are
usually the latest cinema releases which have handily ended up on DVD, but who are
we to argue with the price of the film coming in at 1 soft or alcoholic drink.
Holidays to Crete try to find the best of what each resort has to offer, looking
for those little known beaches, bars or Taverna's that offer the visitor to Crete
something different but memorable.
The hidden gem of Stalis is actually a beach bar,
the bar in question is Africa bar. This bar sits just across from the Cactus Beach
complex and near a car hire outlet. As you walk down a small walkway you will find
a small cocktail bar and chairs overlooking the calm Aegean Sea.
The cocktails and
drinks here are some of the best we have tried in Stalis and the prices are quite
reasonable. When we were their the barman were excellent, being very welcoming and
friendly.
If you get in early you can grab some comfortable chairs overlooking the
sea at night and it a very relaxing way to enjoy the night away from the crowds.
