Holidays To Malia - Travel Guide

Location Of Malia in Crete

Malia is on the North east coast of Crete between Stalis and Sissi and is well known as the party resort of the island.
Malia is the young and lively or 18-30’s resort in Crete and has featured in the Club reps programme on Sky TV

Malia - Lazy days and Lively Nightlife - The clubbers paradise

The town of Malia is split into two parts, the Old Town where you will find traditional Cretan buildings and restaurants and the New Town where you will find all the larger hotels, clubs, bars and English style restaurants.

When visiting Malia there are 2 distinct seasons, the early season running from April till late May and also late September onwards is quite quiet and relaxed and attracts a lot of couples and families, with only a few bars open.

Malia Beach

The high season in Malia is June, July and August and this is when large groups of party goers hit the resort and it really livens up.

All the bars and clubs are open from 9pm to the early hours playing assorted music from R&B, House, Dance to 70's music and Indie music.  When taking a holiday to Malia its recommended you look out the Malia Price list for drinks and food so you can budget your holiday.

Having many years experience of Malia we can offer up some tips on getting the best from your holiday, most bars do 2 for 1 on drinks and free shots, but some bars offer fishbowls and even all you can drink for a small fee.  Entrance to all clubs and bars in Malia is free and there is really no age requirement, and of course you can smoke in all bars and restaurants.  Some of the best bars we can recommend are Midway Bar and Banana’s Bar in the middle of the strip, The Factory, London Bar, Premier Bar and Wicked Bar are another great set offering excellent drinks.  For something different try Zig Zags or the Venue.  And for the ultimate retro night it has to be Cheeky Half.

Taking a break from the hectic nightlife Malia has to offer you need to relax on your holidays, this can be done on the white sandy beaches of Malia and there are plenty to choose from.  At the bottom of Malia strip you have the likes of Mikes Beach, Dolphin Beach, Bikini Beach and many more.  Each beach has its own bar serving food and drinks and offer varied entertainment daily.  On the beaches you can also try water skiing jet skiing, banana boat rides and parasailing.

The restaurants in Malia

Malia boasts some excellent places to eat and each one varies in price.  You have a choices of restaurants in Malia offering everything from Traditional Greek food like San Giorgio restaurant in the Old Town, Eva Traditional Restaurant also in the Old Town of Malia and Paradise Taverna on the Malia to Stalis road.  For English restaurants you can try the Red Lion near the beach or the Kings Arms and the Royal Oak, these 3 in our opinion offer the best English food in Malia but there are plenty more on offer.

For Mexican and Chinese restaurants in Malia you have to try Gringo’s on the beach road this is the only Mexican in Malia in fact and offers a warm welcome and excellent authentic food.  There are a few more Chinese restaurants in Malia and vary in quality, only one we can recommend is in fact in Stalis as this offers top quality food and exceptional service and prices.

Daytime in Malia

There are lots of things to do in Malia apart from the beaches and pool bars.  Firstly you can hire a car or scooter from one of many of the Car Rental shops such as X-Treme Bikes and explore the surrounding towns such as Hersonissos or Stalis or even Lassithi Plateau.  Just outside of the main centre of Malia is Malia Palace a partially restored Minoan Palace that you can go and explore during the high season on weekdays.  For anyone interested in archaeology this is a great start but a must would have to be booking the Knossos Palace trip and you get to see much more of Minoan Civilisation.

There is a small Waterpark in Malia called Malia Slides but for the best day trip out you have to visit Watercity, this can be booked with your local representative or through local travel agents like Charlie's Travel or Altino Travel at the top of the main beach road.
