OK so the showers don't meet English standards and the rooms are fairly basic but the location and peacefulness there more than makes up for it.

The swimming pool is in a lovely tranquil setting overlooking the mountains, and on many occasions there were only a few people there.

It's a five minute walk to Matala itself at a pleasant stroll and we found it nice to be a bit out. As for the resort of Matala, I have never stayed anywhere with a nicer or more friendly relaxed attitude.

Enough said that I'm now saving for next year.

It is now two years since we stayed at Dimitris Villa and we loved it so much we are planning to return later this year.

We found everything to our liking, from the comfortable beds to the delicious breakfasts, but most of all, the peace and quiet. If we wished to spend the day relaxing on the terrace or in our room, we were not disturbed at all. When we required information about excursions or activities, this was readily available.

It was so good, we have urged our daughter to take her honeymoon here when she gets married next month! Look out for Mr. and Mrs. Fiore!

How good it was to return yet again to Matala Dimitris Villa and how quickly the time passed! (Now we need another holiday!) Everything was just terrific and the care and attention given to all the guests, together with the excellent facilities, good food, and friendly and helpful staff is why so many guests, like us, return.

Dimitris in his new Internet kingdom was obviously very happy, and it was good to see old and new staff working so well. Eleni keep smiling and to make sure she washes my T shirt!

Hope the rest of the season is good for you, and with luck, well see you once again before it ends(Please could we have a softer mattress??!!).

PS Dimitris-Junior is intelligent and beautiful. You are a very lucky Couple and he is a brave young man!!

Dimitris Villas are an hours taxi drive from Heraklion Airport and taxi’s can be booked before travel.

Matala is a quiet town but with excellent bars and restaurants there is always something to do here.

The local beaches are a 5 minute walk, away with the local nightlife sitting at the same distance.

The capital city of Heraklion is an hour away if you fancy spending money in the capital city.
