Mountain Biking in Crete

The terrain of Crete varies where ever you go, from rolling hills dotted with olive groves and vineyards, to sandy tracks and mountainous areas.  And what better way to explore it than on a mountain bike, you can hire one out at many of the local car rental shops in every resort or go on organised excursions through out the country.  Make sure you wear a helmet when you go mountain biking, these can usually be obtained when you rent a bike.

Diving in Crete

Diving in Crete is an absolute must, amazing undersea life coupled with some great wrecks littering the sea floor from many a war.  Also lost cities can be found on the island of Dia to explore.

 

There are many dive centres and most travel agents offer trips for new or experienced divers.  There are 4 main diving centres with fully qualified instructors on the island.  Scuba diving is a great way to explore the marine life of Crete, but if you don’t want to get that involved then check out the aquatic centre which as been newly built in Gouves on the East of Crete.

Walking in Crete

If walking is your favourite past time, then there are plenty of opportunities in Crete.  With so much different terrain to choose from, you can walk long mountain roads up to the small villages of Krassi in the east or the might Samaria Gorge in the west of the island.  More information on Samaria Gorge can be found here.

 

The High Mountain, the White Mountains and the rest of the mountains hide countless paths of all difficulty rates, while the gorges that are shaped between them are a unique experience as well as a challenge for every walker or climber.  In Crete there is also a part of the Ε4 path which crosses a long area of the island and has very good sign posting.  And finally, for the lovers of climbing there is a well organized climbing area in the village of Kapetaniana, in the Asterousia Mountains of Heraklion.

 

 

Paragliding in Crete

Paragliding, is an amazing sport and must be tried at least once, there are many places and sights all over Crete where paragliding is offered to tourists.  What better way to see Crete than via an aerial view.  The trips can be booked through most travel agents with qualified instructors and schools.

 

Feel completely free in the Cretan sky and soar above on the air pockets and rising heat from the scorched earth.  No matter what the direction of the wind is, there is always a place in Crete where the wind is blowing the right way

Bungee Jumping

Crete offers some amazing areas from which to partake in the sport of bungee jumping, boasting one of the highest bridges in Europe you can organise a group bungee jump for very competitive prices and again is well recommenced with the whole day captured on film for you to remember always.
