Crete Bus Services.

The bus service in Crete in run by KTEL/Minoan Lines and offer very nice air conditioned buses with regular routes and times through out the day.  For more information about these time-tables you can visit the web site of KTEL.  The bus is an OK way to travel but to travel at your own pace any rely on no-one the car is the best.

Car Hire is by far one of the best ways to explore the island of Crete.  It gives you time to relax and choose your own routes and stop over wherever and when ever.

Car Hire companies have the cars  available for pick up and easy drop off at either Heraklion or Chania Airport, alternatively you can order a car direct to your hotel over the phone.

Transport on the island of Crete is easy to come by and includes a large network of local run taxi’s.  The bus service is also rather advanced with air conditioned and modern buses running almost everywhere in the island.  The more remote you go into the smaller villages the older the buses are, but the mainstay of the bus fleet is new.  Fares are rather cheap also, consisting of nothing more than a couple of euro’s.

Holidays To Crete thoroughly recommend hiring a car to get around Crete.  There are many companies that offer car hire on Crete, but its always recommended to book in advance with nationally recognised companies who offer full insurance.  Car hire gives you the opportunity to explore the island of Crete at your leisure and take your time and stop over in traditional village hotels or villa’s.

The island of Crete may look small on the world map, but in fact Crete is the largest island in Greece, measuring 8,336 km² (3,219 square miles) and is the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean.  To get to the Crete you can hop on a ferry, these run almost daily from many ports around Greece, but when on the island of Crete the best way to get around is by hiring a car,  there are many local car hire companies in Crete but it pays to book ahead and have the car waiting at the airport when you arrive.
